The Discreet Ballistics 300 Blackout 188gr Selous Machined Expander is a subsonic hunting / home defense load that incorporates a machined solid copper 30 Cal projectile (the Selous bullet) which expands at subsonic velocities above 750 feet per second. This projectile was designed using state-of-the-art ballistics modeling software to maximize stability at subsonic velocities.

This product is optimized for 5-11 Inch barrels to maintain sub sonic velocity. In terms of reliability, this product works well in AR or bolt action rifles of any barrel length.

Due to the variance in 300 Blackout barrel length's, multiple barrels were used to test for velocity. The MV range for barrels between 5" to 11" inches is 900-1050 feet per second.

300 Blackout (7.62x35)

300 Blackout is the modern iteration of .300 Whisper, a wild cat cartridge that was developed in the 1990’s. 300 Blackout as we know it today is constructed with a .308 projectile loaded into a shortened .223 brass case. 300 Blackout fits into standard 5.56/.223 AR-15 magazines. 

The caliber is a common chambering for AR-15’s as well as bolt action style rifles. Common projectile weights for this caliber range between 110 grains and 220 grains. Most sub sonic loads will have a 188 grain or heavier projectile. Fast twist rate barrels will help stabilize the flight path of heavier sub-sonic projectiles.
